United States Senator from New Jersey
Cory Booker is a United States Senator representing the
State of New Jersey, serving in the U.S. Senate since October 2013. A member of
the Democratic Party, Booker previously served as the Mayor of Newark, New
Jersey from 2006 to 2013.
Before becoming mayor, Booker served on the Newark Municipal
Council representing the Central Ward from 1998 to 2002. During his time in
Newark politics, Booker gained national attention for his advocacy on issues
related to urban development, crime reduction, housing policy, and government
transparency.
As mayor of Newark, Booker focused on public safety
initiatives, economic development, and efforts to attract investment to the
city. His tenure coincided with redevelopment efforts and new business growth
in downtown Newark.
Booker was elected to the United States Senate in a special
election in 2013 following the death of Senator Frank Lautenberg and has since
been re-elected to full terms. In the Senate, he has worked on legislation
related to criminal justice reform, economic opportunity, housing policy, and
