HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A significant power outage was reported in Hudson County Saturday evening, with more than 6,800 customers temporarily left without electricity, according to outage tracking data.
Information from PowerOutage.us showed 6,823 customers affected in Hudson County, making it the hardest-hit county in New Jersey at the time of the report. The outages were attributed to Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G), the region’s primary electric utility.
Outage figures can change rapidly as utility crews assess damage, isolate affected circuits, and restore service in phases. PSE&G’s outage reporting system updates approximately every 15 minutes, meaning the number of affected customers and the boundaries of the outage area may fluctuate throughout the response.
As of publication, no official cause for the Hudson County outage had been publicly confirmed. The incident occurred amid winter weather conditions across northern New Jersey, which utilities have previously warned can increase the risk of power disruptions due to downed tree limbs, ice accumulation, or equipment damage.
Residents impacted by the outage are encouraged to report service interruptions directly to PSE&G and to follow safety guidance, including avoiding downed power lines and using generators outdoors and away from buildings.
Restoration timelines are determined by the extent of damage and accessibility of affected infrastructure, with priority typically given to critical facilities such as hospitals and emergency
